The purpose of the present study was to investigate the in vitro anti oxidant activities of petroleum ether, ethanol and hot water extract of Passiflora foetida root, leaves, flower, fruit peel and seed. Plant material was extracted in soxhlet extractor successively with petroleum ether and ethanol. Extracts of P.foetida root, leaves, flower, fruit peel and seeds were analysed for the quantification of total phenolics, tannins and ascorbic acid (vitamin c). The antioxidant property was estimated using reducing power, metal chelating, hydroxyl radical scavenging, nitric oxide radical scavenging, ABTSË™+, DPPH·, antihemolytic and β-carotene assays. P. foetida fruit peel was found to be much effective when compared to other parts taken for the present study. It is very clear that this is a plant with tremendous wide spread use and also with extraordinary potential for the pharmaceuticals.
